eczema in 9 month old

just had ds2 to docs with what I thought was initiallyu a dribbling rash and plastering it with vaseline.
Yesterday it started getting more and more raw, tavelling up towards his eyes and on his hands and legs

Apparently it is eczema...
we have oilatum for the bath and a very short term dosage of hydrocortizone to calm it down....

Is there anything else I can do to help?
It looks very sore and doc said we had just caught it before getting infected...

Avoid any soap in the bath, or shampoos with parabens, these set my ds2 off immediately. Try Halos and Horns or an organic product instead but check the ingredients. Avoid using wipes after mealtimes, too much alcohol in them and a fruther irritant. Sorry if dd is beyond this stage of feeding. We use epaderm (presc or non-prescription) for ds2's skin but it is worse in this cold weather. Make sure dd is drinking enough and humidify her bedroom so her skin doesnt dry out too much overnight. Avoid fabric softners on sheets and pillowcases also helps for us too.

Must admit I am guilty of the wipes after meals thing...although while hsi ceecks have been sore, I havent beeun using them at all....

This happened to my 6 month old last week too on face and all over his body. It went away when the weather got warmer and came back when it was freezing at the weekend. SO many different reasons for eczema and it seems doctors are quite quick to diagnose it. Not that I'm slagging any of them off.

DS1 suffered from pretty bad eczema and it was always worse when weather was really cold and heating on full blast!
One tip that the hospital recommended was to mix the steroid cream with some general emollient (you will get to know which one suits Ds the best). This means that you are still getting the benefit of the steroid cream, but in a smaller dosage.
DD2 hasn't shown any signs of eczema yet (touch wood - don't want to tempt fate). She has goats milk instead of cows milk. A friend of mine recommended this. I don't know if this is the reason she is clear of eczema, but I'm not going to try her on cows milk just yet, maybe leave it until she is 1. This might be worth trying??

Good advice on not using wipes for their face aswell, DS1 would scream his head off if I did this, and it certainly seemed to make the problem worse.

My ds has eczema. Its seriously doing my head in. Nothing will shift it, and his skin is now starting to bleed a little, and he won't stop scratching it. He's 5 months old. Had SO many creams for him. I'm just clinging on to the hope that he will grow out of it.

hi, try smothering baby in aqueous cream or dipro base twice a day, aswell as the bath oil and hydrocortisone.you can get it quite cheaply from the chemist.you can also put these creams in the bath water and wash baby with them instead of soap, the water will go all slimey and not be so drying on the skin.keep bathing to a minimum. all my three had this condition and to be honest, it only started to improve after they had turned one and were on three good meals a day and just a couple of cows milk drinks in a cup per day.they were all breast fed initially then bottle fed, im sure it was the amount of milk feeds they were getting, but the GP said they would just grow out of it eventually.my youngest is 17 months and she is just about clear of it now with only the occasional flare up.

But be aware that aqueous cream contains lanolin which is often the very worst thing you can put on eczema (I speak from experience having had it on and off all my life). DS (7 months) has had eczema since about 6 wks old but has got loads better since we started on the Nanny goat formula.

what about cereal?
he is fully breastfed but I cant possibly express any more than i am doing already.......woul dformula be ok?

have you been told to avid dairy yourself?

no....had bizarre hospital visit today with ds2 (meningitus scare but fine)
and doc there said avoid it with ds2...
