Dry hand since baby born

My LO is nearly 5 months and since he was born, I've had really dry hands. Never suffered before. They look red and crack and bleed. Fingertips affected too. Am breastfeeding - is LO sucking the vitamin C out of me? Anyone else had this?

Charbell, have has exactly the same thing, ds now 7 months (I put it down to the extra washing up) but they are so sore, have tried lots of hand creams but most of them sting like crazy when I put them on. Plain E45 cream dosnt sting but dosnt seem to make a lot of difference.

charbell it could be because you are washing your hands or have your hands on water more often

hand coccoon hand cream by Garnier or Neutrogena hand cream are both very good. try and apply as much as possible, expecially last thing at night

Charbell, is it the palms of your hands or the back?

After having each of my 3 boys, the backs of my hands got very dry, bleeding and cracking. I used Diprobase and aqueous cream instead of soap (recommended by GP). It seemed to do the trick. Or try Doublebase cream.

L'Occitane bars of soap are good. A bit pricey but last quite a while. Neals Yard's soap bars are also good. I think they both have lots of shea butter in them.

the trick is to have lots of moisturisers around the house so that you remember to use them.

It is definitely caused or at least made worse by all the bl**dy handwashing! Every toilet trip, nappy change, pre-feed, sterilising thing, dishes, shower and trip to the outside bin, adds up to a lot of handwashing!

It is the top of my hands and my knuckles but recently have noticed it more on the backs of my fingers and my fingertips. Fingertips are really rough and when I feel something, it sometimes feels wet when it isn't. Weird.

Damn, looks like I'll just have to bite the bullet and go moisturise crazy. I guess this is the beginning of old age and ...even worse... it means I am turning into my mother. LOL

Sounds just like what I had Charbell. It will go but in the mean time lots of TLC on your hands and get some warm gloves as the cold weather will make them worse. Good luck...Oh and don't scratch them if they get dry and itchy - they'll split more! xxx

Charbell-I'm the same.Ds is nearly 6 months old and the last few weeks they've been really rough,cracked and bleeding.I'm sure it is all down to washing my hands so often-sometimes I think I have an OCD!
I haven't worn any of my rings lately and have been slapping some Botanics body butter on them a couple of times a day and it's really helped.I was also told to smother them in cream,put some gloves on and sleep in them to lock in the moisture,so maybe try that!

I still have it on and off 2 years on, totally wierd, started like yours just after ds was born.
I personally put it down to not drinking enough and bieng dehydrated while breastfeeding. Dont BF now and they are marginally better. I tried all sorts but it just settled down gradually on its own.
I hated it when fabric stuck or grazed over my finger tips,its like nails down a blackbourd.
cant put my gloves on at the mo because of it, i cant stand the feeling of the wool on my dry skin.

I had this after DD and DS were born. Now it goes away for a while but comes back again in this cold weather. Lots of moisturiser especially before you go out!

Yes, I had this too!
You just need to put more moisturiser than ever before, and wear rubber gloves when washing up, they really do help.
