quick blood pressure question is 140/90 high?

i know its high for peter (usually 100/70ish i think), but is it high for normal people. (please repalce normal with whatever word you wish)

it's the borderline to high I think.
is everything ok? (or as ok as it can be)

120/80 is considered average, but I don't think 140/90 is high under "normal" circumstances

think 120/80 is the utterly normal reading. So it's a bit higher, but no idea if that's too high iyswim.

yes, i think high is considered as anything above 160/100

BUT in someone who may have heart probs (and some other conditions) then anything over 140 may need treatment

during pg i was regularly about 138/90 and they didn't seem at all worried! lol

he was on medication to lower his blood pressure, but think they have weaned him off it. it has never been this high before. he says it has gone up slowly, its not a sudden increasem he feels fine just tired.

Ranges for the 4 blood pressure categories

Normal* Below 120/80
Prehypertension 120/80 - 139/89
Stage 1 Hypertension 140/90 - 159/99
Stage 2 Hypertension 160/100 or higher

In general terms, people with a systolic blood pressure consistently above 160mmHg and/or a diastolic pressure over 100mmHg need treatment to lower their blood pressure.

People with slightly lower blood pressures (140-159mmHg systolic or 90-99mmHg diastolic) may also need treatment if they have a high risk of developing cardiovascular disease, eg stroke or angina (chest pains).

My consultant said the guidelines have changed and what is used as normal to measure against is now lower.I think that 140/90 is borderline for treatment now whereas it used to be My doctors are consistently trying to keep mine below 80 if possible

Not especially, but its more important to go on whats normal for the patient rather than whats technically 'normal' kwim? If I saw a patient with a bp of 140/90 when their normal was 100/60 I would report it to a registered nurse.

140/90 is borderline hypertension. Usually doctors are aiming to get down to here or below.
