Ds's finger chopped off in door!

The school phoned me to say ds had an accident and has gone to a and e so I rushed there and his fingertip was literally hanging offThey have stuck it back as the bone is still intact and sent us home until Monday.If it doesn't set we will be referred to plastic surgery and they will have to take it off and try to do something.Very scarey but the NHS was brilliant We got there at 1 and he was seen x-rayed and sorted within 1 hour

Yowch! FWIW, my BFs DS had a simillar experience a couple of months ago and everything looking good. Hope it turns out OK for him too.

I slammed my sister's finger in a door when we were kids (accidentaly). Sounds just like what's happened to your DS's finger. The bone was still intact but finer tip hanging off. parents were very worried as it looked awful and was her wedding finger. She had plastic surgery and it looked great afterwards. You can see a few small scars on the palm side now (almost 30 years later) but you wouldn't notice if you wern't looking.

Hope he doesn't need the surgery though.

kids' fingertips have amazing healing capacity, so chances are it'll be fine.

He has really surprised us by being very calm He is usually hysterical with blood etc but I think it was just so awful he couldn't speak.We are home which surprised me but he is asking for a take away tonight so think he's ok unlike dp and I who were really shaken We all arrived seperately at the hospital so were there when the ambulance

He is 11 and like dp would still be feeling himself even if they chopped his head off!

OMG how awful ... poor little fella. A couple of months ago I too got a call from DS1's nursery to say his hand was trapped in door and they were waiting for fire brigade to come and free him. He was soo calm (shock I think) and his wrist was literally flattened when he was finally released from door - he was in plaster for a week and may have some nerve damage but is okay now. I think they bounce back faster than us ... I can still see his little fingers dangling on inside of door whilst he was being propped up by staff member on outside. Anyway, hope your DS makes a quick recovery.

Oh noddyholder, so sorry to hear this happened. On a possitive note this happened to me when I was 4 at nursery and had to have it stiched back on. Now --years later I am a dentist so obviously have fully functioning fingers. Wishing hiom a speedy recovery.

I saw a documentary once about how our fingertips can actually regrow. Apparently it's the only bit of the body which can.

I cut my brothers finger off in the door when he was 18 mths and I was 7. The whole finger tip and nail came off, when we found it after Mum had rushed him off to A&E it looked like a little baked bean

But (and this is the point of baring my sorry soul) it did grow back, even the nail. Kids are very resiliant.

Hope your DS feels better soon, just remind him how popular he will be with the other kids when he gets back to school.

Poor thing noddy. This happened to my ds when he was little - he took the top of his thumb off including part of the bone but it has healed well (apart from a dodgy looking nail) - hope your ds's does as well.
