thrush in babies after antibiotics

has anyone any experience of this?

ds has had amoxicilin for an ear infection, he's 25wks. hv said today that he has thrush on is bottom as a result, which i've now got some cream for, but since coming home, i'm worried he could have it in his mouth too. i can't see any white patches inside his mouth but on the outside, his cheeks are very red, and spotty like his bottom is , could this be thrush too?

Its a possibility although when my kids had thrush it tended to be their bottom and inside of the mouth, I haven't actually known of it around the outside of the cheek, but sure someone will be along soon to help you out. Supprised HV didn't give you prescription for oral thrush too though as the two usually go toghether!

yes it can! ds had this when tiny... spots went all round the back of his neck!

the hv said it was a heat rash but it got worse and worse... gp finally diagnosed thrush, and after taking nystatin for a couple of days it disappeared completely!

Thrush usually only occurs in warm, damp places so I wouldn't have thought that his red, spotty cheeks were caused by thrush.

I'd take him back to see the GP if I were you.

have been back to docs with him this morning. good news is his ear infection has cleared up and she'e checked his mouth for thrush and its ok, she thinks the red, dry cheeks are down to the fact that he's been so poorly and possibly teeth, so its just the sore bottom to get better now!
