Dd's hearing seems rather poor last couple of days

dh noticed it yesterday - she is normally v v responsive and she just appeared not to be hearing what he was saying. I have just been in her bedroom with her, asked her in a normal voice to shut her wardrobe door and she didn't hear - I repeated several times and then said it loudly, she did it immediately. I tried asking her if she wanted a Fab (her fave thing, always jumps at the thought of one) and no response. She keeps saying "I can't hear you mummy, talk louder" all the time too.

I think she is coming down with a cold, she has been very grumpy last couple of days and nursery said she was not herself today. Could it just be blocked ears because of a cold or should I take her to the doc?

yes it is probably the cold but take her to the docs to check she hasn't got an ear infection with it

.. they do develop selective deafness as they get older but I do think the Fab thing is a good clue that she's not having you on

Yes I thought so - suspected selective deafness but now I don't think so. She has had a couple of ear infections in the past but never noticed deafness

ds gets a bit deaf when he has a cold - can linger for weeks. She may have an infection but if she doesn't seem in pain then it may yet clear itself.
