how long do you generally live with a sore throat/cough as an adult before going to the GP?

i'm generally of the opinion that it's probably a virus and they probably can't do anything... do you go to your GP with these kind of 'probably viral' things?

I think it depends how severe the cough/sore throat is tbh. If my throat is so sore it keeps me awake and feels like I'm swallowing razor blades despite paracetamol I would go to the GP as chances are it would be an infection. Similarly I would go for a cough if I was short of breath/wheezing. If it was just the mild kind you get with a cold though I wouldn't waste the GPs time.
