Yes, you can.

Clayhead · 24/11/2005 08:51

Calpol is paracetamol and Nurofen is brufen so they can be taken together.

I think it's usually 4 doses of Calpol per day and 3 of Nurofen IIRC, giving 7 doses in 24 hours.

hopey · 24/11/2005 08:57

i would be very careful about giving DD ibuprofen and calpol so close together. Nurofen doesn't contain paracetamol as such but both are pain relievers. With regards calpol, as it contains paracetamol, you must leave at least 4 hours beteween doses. If you're having trouble getting DD's temperature down, have you tried those gel patches you put on the forehead.

Twiglett, Calpol and nurofen together are fine! Don't worry- give them. Strip her off to her nappy/ underwear (don't know how old she is!)and give her plenty to drink if she'll take it (to stop her getting dehaydrated when she sweats). If she's still hot, sponge her with tepid water, and call NHS 24

jayzmummy · 24/11/2005 09:00

You can safely take Nurofen and calpol at the same time. they work well together.

Try sponging all over with a cool damp sponge. Open the window and strip her off.

tissy · 24/11/2005 09:00

BTW, both are pain relievers, but both are also antipyretics (lower temperature).

lucykate · 24/11/2005 09:01

yes its perectly safe to give them both together. when we took dd to a&e once with v high temp, they gave her both and i was shocked and queried it, but they said its ok to do so.

Twiglett · 24/11/2005 09:07

thanks seems to be working ...I just wasn't sure if I had to wait a\set time ... her temp just went down below 39 ... at last ... poor baby

well its certainly handy to know you can take both together, I didn't know that. Hope DD gets better soon twiglett.

GREATauntymandy · 24/11/2005 09:11

definately.
I used to use them every 2 hours so calpol every 4 and ibrobofen (sp) every four

NannyL · 24/11/2005 09:16

yes.... you can give them at the same time if you want?

daisy1999 · 24/11/2005 09:19

yes we were told to give both to dd by the hospital when she has a temp ( I find nurofen more effective than calpol at bringing down the temp).

hunkermunker · 24/11/2005 09:42

How is she, Twiglett?

I have given DS nurofen and paracetamol at the same time, because he gets horrible temps when he's not well (41.3 is his current record, which I hope remains unequalled and unbeaten because it was scary).

I find that Disprol (he won't take Calpol) is gentler on the stomach - he's been sick after taking nurofen on an empty stomach a couple of times.

she's better now thanks all .. is currently painting her face with felt tips .. she looks like a green bean

I knew I shouldn't have done the MMR thing .. didn't do it with DS but convinced ourselves it was the right thing to do as DD hadn't had thimerosal in primaries

only concerned because she had a febrile episode that landed us in A&E on Monday ..

Yep, you can give ibuprofen and paracetamol together. DD had both together whilst in hospital a few months ago.
