How much do ears have to stick out to be classed as protruding?

I feel so shallow asking this but I have a 9 week old baby girl and her ears stick out a tiny bit at the top. It's not just me who thinks it, other family members agree.

It's not a lot though and at the moment look svery cute but have no way of knowing how it might look and affect her when she is older. I have read about these ear splints (ear buddies)you can use on a baby, under 6 months, which corrects ear shape irregularities. It's a quick fix - tales about 8 weeks, apparently.

Whilst I do not think the problem is massive in my baby, I'd hate to get 5 years down the line and for it to be very noticeable. I'd kick myself for not doing something when it was an easy fix.

So, how do I measure by how much they stick out and is there a benchmark measurement?

I still feel so shallow, but I had to ask.

Don't worry beatie, you're not shallow, just a loving mum! I'm afraid I'm not an expert on anything that could be done but I wonder if your health visitor might know? Also, this sounds crazy but wait till she has hair!! At 9 weeks she prob. doesn't have much and I think her ears are more noticeable because she's so young - when she's a toddler with hair sticking out all over the place you probably will have forgotten you were ever worried about it!!!!

Thanks for your kind responses ladies. I feel a bit foolish now. I had a look at dd1's baby pictures and her ears look exactly the same as my new baby girls It must be the lack of hair which makes a normal protrusion look exagerated as dd1's ears look perfectly lovely to me.
