mongolian blue spots, can they spread/grow?

dd3 has one on her bottom. been there since birth ibelive (HV spotted it at 6 weeks check). dd3 was crawling about today nappiless and i noticed that her bottom looked a bit blue, radiating from the initial blue spot. i am certain it wasnt that big before.

its definatly more blue, but then she doesnt often escape without a nappy so maybe i didnt spot (haha) it all before.

i amde the HV note in down in dd3 red book, as i has heard on here that some people are accused of bruising their babies. and also as dd3 (and me and peter) are all fair skinned (peter is so white he glows!!) i was also told it was quite unusual to see blue spots on white babies. is that correct? have i done the right thing?

DD's one (also on her bum/lower back!) looks like it has grown, but I think it's just where the skin has spread as she's got bigger. She's 2 now. This reminds me to check DS2's, I haven't noticed it for a while so I wonder if it's finally gone?

misdee, as far as I was aware it's usually only on asian/arabic/mediterranian type skin but there's always exceptions to any rule

the mongolian blue spot is a trademark of all the cultures that developed from the Mongol race. (mongol as in Caucasian, Negroid) Not to be confused with the Mongol Civilisation as in Genghis Khan and Attila the Hun who are also of the Mongol race. I bring them up because Genghis Khan and Attila's troops made incursions into Europe as far as central France and anywhere they went they, ahem, raped and pillaged. So the trademark blue spot pops up in Western Europe too. There is a region in France where Attila settled for a year and even today, 20% of the babies in the area are born with the blue spot, also called the sacral spot because it appears on the sacrum. (base of the spine)

The spot eventually disappears usually after a baby is a year old.

PS people with native american descent also have the spot hence so does my dd.

i have discovered the spot on my dd2 at birth after 4 weeks now someone has recognised it, i seriously thought she was brised at the birth and was concerned it was not going away, have got this registered on my medical notes at clinic and in the red book.
i am white but with dark skin , my husband is white but a quarter sicilian.
after telling my mum, i had blue spots on back until 6 at least but it never had a name then.
i was advised that you should get this registered due to child protection allegations
