Food coming out nose after tonsillectomy

Yes that headingis vile, sorry. Another poster is experiencing this after her tonsillectomy a few days ago, I am having mine tomorrow and need to prepare myself. Is this normal?? How and WHY is it coming out your nose?

I am prepared for pain, blood, pain, scabs, pain, eating toast and more pain but not for nasalregurgitation!

Didn't happen to me but can be a common side affect apparently. Something to do with the big gap left when your tonsils go you kinda have to learn to swallow again

Yes it is me who is currently walking around tonsil free with everything coming out my nose. Any tips?

Hey I know I can get you my old tonsils to block up the hole if you like?

Out of surgery. Nose chopped off and lips like jordan.

He text me back like wtf??

I had mine out last year TOTALLY worth it although I was scraed shitless at the time. Have just gone my first winter without tonsillitus every other month!

My top tips
Drink atleast 16 fl oz of water an hour
Use a humidifyer to keep the air moist at night to stop your throat drying up and having the pain of swallowing withg a dry throat.
Set your alarm for every hour to wake you and have a drink again more for comfort.
Get some cold packs from boots to keep round your neck
Eat loads of pretzels
Be very careful around day 10 with over exerting yourself and drinking warm drinks (learnt the hard way on that one)
Chew gum for any ear pain (didn't have any myself)

connor what do you mean about day 10? I had them out on friday and have managed to drink tea today.

Never thought about gum!

oh that sounds good - a whole winter - infact een summer without the t word. I am getting it once every 5 weeks now.

You know what will be nice too - the not having the fear of it - every time i feel a tickle in my throat I am inspecting it with a torch incase its the white spots.

off to bed in a minute, then off early to hosp.

spoon my surgeon on thursday said she wants me having lots of gum.

Ok. I will get dp to buy me some gum tomorrow. This ear pain is the most horrific thing ever! I literally stand up.. Then fall over.

I did however eat a whole magnum ice cream without needing to flush each mouthfull with water to make it go down!

Hellospoon I avoided hot drinks as per advice on bleeding. Day 10 I was feeling rather perky and disregarded the fact that this is about the time the scabs fall off had a coffee and 10 minutes later blood started pouring out and I ended back up in hospital for three days and had several further big bleeds. I am by nature a bleeder though so wasn't too surprised it happened to me

Posted on your other thread about this. I still can't say some words like I think I used to be able to but I don't have massive pus filled tonsils giving me bad breath and horrendous neck pain any more so every cloud etc....

giraffes, have just seen this thread. really hope your op went well. my ds1 had his tonsils (and adenoids) out last autumn - the recovery was very tough for him but he got through it and it has been so wonderful to not have him on monthly antibiotics and suffering so much with awful tonsillitis (and sleep apnoea) I had to respond though to say that although he hasn't had the food/nose/regurgitation thing, whenever he now gets a cold he does projectile sneeze - he literally shoots the contents of his nose several feet away.
