DS's having funky dirty nappies for days now.

I am getting concerned about my nearly 17 month old ds. He has been having many dirty nappies for several days now, probably 5 days. It is not diarrhoea per say as it is not watery and isn't the kind of smell that hits the back of your throat and makes you want to gag (sorry!)

I would say that his nappies are very mucousy and are obviously very acidic as he skin was red raw and broken within hours. The problem is that he doesn't smell, until you open the nappy, so have to just keep checking him. Today I have noticed that he is passing what looks like only half digested food, mainly bread (if I had to guess) and his nappies smell slightly of rotting fish. It is way gross and costing me a fortune as I am changing 4 or 5 dirty nappies a day (3 already, up until 11.30 this morning) and then his wet ones as well, I am changing him as often as a new born.

Any ideas as to what this could be?? I though perhaps a gastro bug of some kind but am not sure.

My ds and ds used to get this when cutting the bigger back teeth irrc. Is he cutting any molars?

Heartmum2Jamie · 19/11/2005 12:38

He's not cutting molars, but has just cut (maybe a week ago) one of his canine teeth at the bottom. I have checked the top 2 but can't see any activeity there yet.

My ds had this and was diagonosed with toddler diarrhoea after lots of tests.

SenoraPostrophe · 19/11/2005 13:23

does he have a cold?

WigWamBam · 19/11/2005 13:24

Toddler diarrhoea is really common in children of this age and doesn't normally need any treatment - it's not usually serious.

No cold either!

I hadn't thought of Toddler diarrhoa. My older son had it when he got to about 2, but wasn't mucousy & didn't smell like rotting fish/rubbish!

Hmmm, may have to ask the dr on Monday. Thankfully he has already got a paed referal coming up, so it's just somoething else I can ask about.
