Your doctors will have an out of hours service. Just ring the normal number and it will put you through automatically.

Pruni, if you think it is likely to be Scarlatina, then I would make sure you know where the nearest paediatric A & E is, just in case. Rashes are always worrying, but scarlatina is not usually serious in otherwise healthy, well-nourished children in the developed world
If hospital was on the cards, I'd choose my paed A & E carefully by the way. We have three within driving distance and one I'd avoid

In our area we phone the number given on the surgery ansaphone. They get an on-call doctor to phone you and if you need seeing he arranges for you go to the hospital where they run a clinic.

Ours is called GRABADOC (Greenwich and Bexley Doctors on Call) Pruni and is widely thought to be rather better than the daytime service round our way
So much so that I can't be the only SE London Mner who has been known to wait til 6.01pm before deciding dd's spots are troubling me...

Anyway, if you ring your GP out of hours, as cupcakes suggests, you will either automatically be transferred, or an ansaphone message will give you a new number to dial.

BTW, I had scarletina as a child and I can still remember how ill I felt - this was over 30 years ago! I hope your poor dd doesn't have it. Isn't scarlet fever the "bad" one and scarletina the milder version?Or are they 2 separate illnesses?

Marina - I agree, GRABADOC is fab and we've whisked our two there at midnight before now with mysterious rashes and temps.

Need to ask though, which A&E's are your three closest and where would you go first? Asking as someone in your neck of the woods that has never needed it (touch wood) and I would instinctively go to Queen Mary's in Sidcup. Would you?

Kbear, Queen Mary it is. We have always found them very good. Lewisham and Darenth Park (you can tell ds has damaged himself all over the place LOL) were fine but much, much busier and more crowded. QM rocks I agree!

Jest ye not, the last time we were there it was because the little fiend put a borlotti bean up his nose at nursery. How we laughed, and so did he when they got out the pointy green tweezers. It was sorted in minutes without a squeak from anyone, lovely staff. Shame about Sidcup though
