DS goes for operation tomorrow!

DS (almost 2) is going for day surgery tomorrow. Nothing serious like heart surgery but will still have general anaesthetic. I just keep worrying, about how he will cope with no milk and food tomorrow, how will he react to the pain and discomfort, and hate reading stories of general surgery botch ups (like one in the paper today)...I know other babies here have had much more serious things done, but still feel stressed! How did your babies cope?

Hope it all goes well for you both.

Good luck and best wishes for a good outcome tomorrow. I think you've got amazing advice on here.

hope everything went well today - love Binker

Hope it all went ok. Lots of sympathy, I bottled out of surgery for my daughter this year through sheer fear. Don't think I can avoid it some time next year though. Sure it is fine (relatively) for the babies and kids, it is the parents who get more stressed I imagine.

Florenceuk, hope all went well and he is recovering nicely.

Thanks everyone for such wonderful messages of support - made a real difference. It all went OK, although DH woke up this morning with sore throat and unidentified nausea, so wasn't much help! DS didn't seem to mind too much the lack of food and drink, although he did whine every so often "crackers!" and "Feed!". The hospital staff were very good at providing toys and activities to keep them occupied. DS was very good going under, he was very curious about everything and then they put the mask on and off he went. After surgery woke up and had a feed and then some food, seemed quite happy. But as the blood rushed back to his extremities, began feeling the pain quite a bit, so he has been on a regular routine of calpol and nurofen, but basically moving around hurts, so we've spent the rest of the day on the couch, watching the Teletubbies and Pingu. Poor lad is still very sore, I expect more crying tomorrow. I may have to go out and buy another video though to keep my sanity as DS insists I must sit next to him and not read, but cuddle him, and watch the video as well...

Glad it was OK florenceuk and hope DS isn't uncomfortable for much longer. At least you are past the worst now.

Blu · 08/10/2003 21:54

REALLY pleased that it's over and done with, for you...and now you can join the rest of us whose kids have had surgery to encourage Tinker that it really is worse for the parents. When they're so young, anyway.
Hope your little mite makes a full convalescence v soon.

forestfly · 08/10/2003 21:58
