Ds2 had a rotten cold when he was only a few days old - the GP gave us saline drops which you pop in their nose (before a feed in particular) and it helps them feed a bit more easily. Make an appointment with your GP and ask for some.

One word of caution - our GP told us not to use any of the menthol type products (Vicks, Snufflebabe etc.) when ds2 was so young - not even in the room.

Hope she is better soon - it's scary when they are this little and have a cold.

Springchicken · 17/11/2005 08:01

JARM, get some saline drops although you can just buy these from the chemist.
Also, I brought a vapouriser from Boots once which you put tablet things into and it released steam into the room - helped DD out loads.
I'll see if i can find one and link it.

Springchicken · 17/11/2005 08:19

Found it here

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 17/11/2005 08:20

doc gave me some saline drops yesterday, but her nose isnt blocked or running - it sounds as if its all in her throat/chest.

got another appointment at 10.40am - really hope she can do something else because this isnt normal!

Springchicken · 17/11/2005 08:23

GREATauntymandy · 17/11/2005 09:07

good luck. Just rest when she does if you can!

munz · 17/11/2005 09:17

how is the LO hon?

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 17/11/2005 09:30

She's not good.... im so worried about her. Hereyes are all red and puffy where she is obviously really tired. Jessi is on hyper mode this morning which isnt helping. DH is off to the hospital today for a review on his knee so is going to be away from 11:15 til 6pm - i just wanna curl up in a ball and cry!

OP posts:
munz · 17/11/2005 09:33

come on girl u can do this - u know u can. hopefully jess will run about a lot and tire herself out (but not b4 ur DR's apt thou), then she can have a nice nap - and with any luck the DR will give u something for the LO to help her sleep. Tell the dr how worried u are and u're not leaving till u have some sort or resolve.

(and as for DH/his knee - bloody army! (now repeat after me - bloody stinking silly stupid army! feel better?) lol.

failing that is it tot's day today? - could a friend take jess to tot's for the morning for u?

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 17/11/2005 09:34

i wish it was tots today! oh well - all else fails a walk in the park for an hour might help!

OP posts:
munz · 17/11/2005 09:36

(sorry babe ment to add (((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))) but boss walked in! )

keep ur pecker up, and hopefully the DR will be able to help wiht some remidies.

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 17/11/2005 09:39

can they give sleeping pills to a 3 week old??? LOL

Just feel like such a crap mummy right now - blame myself for not BF her now too.... she probably wouldnt have got ill if i had tried a bit harder

OP posts:
munz · 17/11/2005 09:43

lol - erm in a word no! lol - but u could ask!

come on girl - u're not a bad mummy - and u know that. I doubt BF'ing her or not would have altered the event. now she has a cold. don't be so hard on urself. u have a lot to contend with right now. what time's the dr's? do u have time for a quick cuppa and a sit down?

fraid I can't help too much with the BF having not done it - but the thing is hon, u tried, no one can ask more than that. (((((((hugs)))))) not everyone can feed, and the fact u didn't doesn't make u any worse a mummy than someone who does feed.

(joking by the way! lol)

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 17/11/2005 09:47

im tempted with the whisky!

ILL BE FINE ONCE bECKY HAS BEEN SEEN TO.... oops sorry about caps..... roll on 10:40.

ill put jess down for a nap once dh gone.... hopefully by then becky will have decided to sleep!

OP posts:
munz · 17/11/2005 09:49

well once she is - u're to sit down for 10 mins with a bar of choccy and a nice cuppa tea and take 5. and DH can watch beccy.

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 17/11/2005 11:26

back from docs... rebecca's got a "stinking head cold" as the doc put it... cant do much but have got some eye drops to help her eyes..... dh now left me with 2 grumpy girls! Jess just gone for a nap so i dont want to hear from her until at least 1.30pm!

OP posts:
GREATauntymandy · 17/11/2005 14:53

did u get a rest?

Piggiesmum · 17/11/2005 15:30

{{{hugs}}} and sympathy.

Hope you both feel better soon. Don't blame yourself for not breastfeeding. I'm bf'ing and it hasn't stopped ds getting a cold. Not as bad as Rebeccas but it is hard knowing they probably feel like crap and don't understand why
