chiropractor - DH went to one after having had a bad back on and off for years - they did an xray and say that his back was really twisted - they manipulated for about 5 sessions (maybe 10 mins per time) - and now - touch wood he hardly has a problem.

Not cheap - but it did work.

Painkillers - max strength ibuprofen was advised by doctor and chiropractor - apparently safe to take long term.

Get a heat pad from Boots - there are several makes, the best one I find is the sort of corset affair (can't remember who makes it) You can keep on for 8 hours at a time.

Take ibuprofen or voltarol (see dr for prescription) and rub in Arnica Gel.

Then when better take up Pilates to strenghten your core stability and stop it happening again

spend time sitting on an exercise / birth ball (from argos, 3.99 - 12.99) - it helped my sacro-iliac pain no end.
