m/w noticed eyes were slightly yellowing in the corners on monday when dh was 2 days old. doesnt seem to be getting any more discoloured but ds has not passed a stool since monday morning. he is feeding well and sleeping seemingly "normal". is the non pooing thing something to be concerned over??

Not to worry you, but I would be a bit concerned at no poo in 4 day old.

My DS was jaundiced and it did lead to him getting more sleepy and not feeding effectively. How often is your DS feeding, are you getting wet nappies? Is the m/w visiting again soon?

babybritjo · 25/05/2011 10:03

we are getting 4/5 wet nappies a day, he is feeding really well every 1.5-2 hrs, latching for 15-20 mins each side. he doesnt seem to be in any tummy discomfort atall. M/w is due to visit tomorrow.

It could be nothing or it could be something - I'd call the midwife now to at least get an opinion over the phone. They may think it's ok to wait til tomorrow but they may want to see you today just to check him over.

This happened with dd (finally pooed on day 6) and it was fine in her case but it is not usual so it should definitely be checked out. Don't worry but don't delay either.

What GoldenGreen said - my DS didn't poo for a while after the meconium. He turned out just to be an infrequent pooer - still is at 8 mo. But it's not usual, so definitely get it checked out.

Glad to hear it babybritjo - welcome to the wonderful world of worrying about bowel movements! (and congratulations on your new baby :))

Should be fine slight jaundice is common in newborns as their liver is not fully prepared to deal with toxins etc etc should clear up with in a couple of days.

Straight2Extremes · 25/05/2011 13:00

oops nevermind :)

babybritjo · 25/05/2011 21:39
