What could cause me, DP and DS to all get tongue ulcers at the same time?

We have all, this week, had really painful tongues, with visible blisters down the sides and at the end. Anything I have Googled has suggested this can be due to drinking, smoking, and eating particular foods, but DP has been working mad hours for the past few weeks and so hasn't eaten at home at all, and obviously DS (3) doesn't smoke or drink and neither do either of us, so not sure what the connecting factor could be for us all to get this at the same time. It really hurts! Any helpful ideas?

No, nothing else anywhere.

Primary herpes (coldsore) infection? Has (DS in particular) had a temp spike recently?

I haven't noticed. He's had a cold, so if he's been grotty I've put it down to that. Just noticed I have a kind of rash of tiny red dots covering the surface of my tongue too - I've never looked at it so closely under a strong light though, so maybe it's normal???

A primary herpes infection (i.e. coldsores) often occurs inside the mouth and is very infectious which is why I raised it as a possibility as you said you were all affected.

Usually affects the gums and cheek lining as well...basically everywhere inside the mouth. Looks like creamy ulcers. IME causes horrific bad breath. Usually preceded with a large temp spike 2-3 days before.

Adults can use bonjela to sooth, anbesol can be used on children (check age guidance though, think it is 2yr plus) to sooth although anbesol can in itself be painful to apply.
