TMI ALERT: literally peeing out of my butt. Worried because I am due to go on holiday in a week and if kids catch this then we r screwed. No vomitting. Could it be something I ate or is a bug going around? How much longer. I am knackered. Y

Poor you Sad

Immodium for the diahorea , then drink some Dioralyte, it is miraculous, you will feel better instantly!

HazeltheMcWitch · 20/05/2011 22:17

Make sure you get loads of fluid in you, and be scrupulous about hygiene.
bleach down loo, wipe down surfaces, incl loo handle, light etc etc. Get someone else to do the cleaning, you just get to hang out in loo-vicinity.

NimpyWindowmash · 20/05/2011 22:22

I had this the other day, I think it's a bug. Took 2 immodium then gradually built strength back up, by resting, eating and drinking plenty, was fine a day later. Kids didn't catch it. Don't worry i think you'll be ok for your holiday.

If you have more than one loo, restrict one for your use. Do not share towels. Be scrupulous re handwashing and change your towel every few hours. Launder on a 60 wash or above.

Do not cook or prepare food. If you really have no option but to serve food, then do the quickest things possible.

All other family to be careful about washing hands before eating.

rest as much as you can, in the day, plus as many hours in bed as you can manage (go to bed at same time as the dcs)

as Hazel said, wipe down things like loo handles. Also tap handles, door handles etc.

Can you keep away from your dcs? Or better still send them away for a day or so away from you?

If not, minimise close contact. Obvious things like don't kiss their faces or breathe over them for at least 48 hours after the vomiting stops.

I have had this and I went to the doctor (I was also being sick and had important medication to keep down).
Basically the advice was to drink lots of fluids - water and then when I felt like it to have clear broth type soup. She advised against immodium in order to get the "germs" out of my system. Also sent a sample to the lab.

HazeltheMcWitch · 20/05/2011 22:27

Agree with everything Onepiece said!

Basically, semi-quarantine yourself.
Also keep loo lid down when flushing.
Move any toothbrushes out of loo, also other people's towels etc...

And recommend baby wipes for your nethers if you're feeling delicate!

onepieceofcremeegg · 20/05/2011 22:31

Thank you Hazel. :)

Hope you are soon feeling better OP.

Also to add if you usually co-sleep with anyone, try to avoid it. if you can't then at least turn away as far as possible.

Starfish I read somewhere (but I may be wrong) that after a certain number of hours the "germs" have already been flushed out as it were, and subsequent diarrhoea is due to irritation of the bowel rather than a need to get rid of germs/infection?

yentil · 20/05/2011 22:32

Feeling very delicate. Also now thinking kids may get it on holiday. Should I cancel. DH thinks I'm being irrationale but couldn't bear this abroad.

Dioralyte

onepieceofcremeegg · 20/05/2011 22:36

It is highly likely that the diarrhoea will stop in a day or so. Unless your dcs come down with it within the next 2 days or so, then they will probably be fine. even if they get it in the next day or two, the holiday is still a week away.

do you have holiday insurance. Imo no need to make a decision now, although I appreciate your anxiety and I would feel the same.

GeekLove · 20/05/2011 22:41

DeffO Diarolyte. You are feeling weak since your sugar and salt balance is disrupted. IME, these things while unpleasant tend to be over in a day or so. Once you stop passing liquid motions have dry toast and a banana. Avoid meat or dairy.'hopefully you will be on the mend a couple of days from now.

yentil · 20/05/2011 22:48

Just had dirolyte. Yes insured. But been waiting a whole year for this break.

Do not take Immodium or any other block-you-up medication. Your body is trying to get rid of the nasties - vv bad idea to trap them in. You need to drink lots & lots of water, with or without rehydration solution. The rehydration solution helps your body absorb the water better, but if you can't handle the taste right now, plain water will do. Salt & sugar will help you feel better, stop cramping, so try the rehydration solution.

Don't worry about the holiday yet. Give yourself 24 hours and you'll probably be feeling much, much better. Just don't dehydrate!!

Hello yentil, how ya doin' today ?

mybrainsthinkingfuckyou · 21/05/2011 13:29

Hi love

Your body is getting rid of it - in the meantime drink flat coca cola (stirred coke) or even better a flat/stirred sports drink.
When you are up to it eat a well grilled piece of meat - steak or chicken and maybe a piece of bread.
No citrus. No dairy. No juices. Lots of water and the flat gatorade.
Get better soon.
