On monday I started to feel like I had a lump in my throat every time I swallowed anything. By tuesday, the lump feeling was accompanied by a pain from my throat to my chest when I swallowed with shooting pain through my ribs both front and back. I went to the pharmacy and the pharmacist said he thought it was something I'd eaten, it was referred pain from indigestion and sold me some Zantac which don't seem to have done anything.
By yesterday a burning sensation in my, now swollen throat, was added to all the other symptoms and a bubble of burning pain rising from the middle of my chest up into my throat every 20 minutes or so. So I went to the doctor on an urgent appointment this morning (it's so painful to eat or drink that I have had a constant headache probably through dehydration). He totally ignored the pain in my ribs and the burning sensation and told me I have Pharyngitis and prescribed me an antibiotic.
I'm not convinced by this diagnosis as I don't feel that it explains all the symptoms. I only saw him because you get who you're given on an urgent appointment. He's really sweet but generally bottom of my list at the practice due to a series of mistakes previously (including prescribing medication not to be taken while breastfeeding two minutes after I'd told him I was breastfeeding)
I'm going to continue to take the antibiotic in the hope that he's right and it works but I'm going to book an appointment with a doctor of my choice next week just incase he's not (and cross my fingers that I'll feel much better and have to cancel)
Is he right on this diagnosis or could it be something else entirely?
