Giving blood when having a heavy period during peri-menopause?

I'm due to give blood tomorrow and am peri-menopausal - haven't had a period for about six weeks but the ache has started this evening so I'm about to get a really heavy bastard period if past performance is anything to go by. I know you're not supposed to lose much blood blah blah blah but would you still go if you were me?

Surely the blood in your uterus is blood that is the womb lining- it's not fresh blood coming directly from your arteries, or that is normally circulating in your body. It's blood that has collected over weeks. So i can't see that giving blood makes any difference.

I'd still go. They check your iron levels before you donate anyway. And then have a big slab of red meat and some spinach for dinner Grin
