Just been Diagnosed with Rosacea

Today I finally went to Drs and was diagnosed with Rosacea. Dr prescribed Metronidazole Gel 75% for my face. I also been given Tetralysal tablets to deal with the Rosacea and the sore spots on my scalp.

I wonder what are other people's experiences of these medications?

Also, can anyone recommend facial wash and make up products? In particular, has anyone with Rosacea used Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish?

Many thanks

I am using Liz Earle and have rosacea (although it is being controlled at the moment with antibiotics, erythromycin). I can't say the Liz Earle made it any better however it doesn't aggrevate it like so many of the other things I tried. I find it quite soothing.

Do you live near a JOhn Lewis? You could go and ask for samples and see how you get on.

Good luck with it.

Me too. And according to the print out from my doctor it mainly affects middle-aged women. I am not middle aged Angry (well ok I am 40 but I am NOT middle aged!!)

I didn't like the gel as it went all pealy when it dried so not only was I spotty but flaky too. I switched to the cream version and it seems to be doing the trick.

Don't wear makeup so can't help with that, sorry.

I use the Bare escensuals mineral powder and find it is the best at hiding redness and it does not cause breakouts, Lilly lolo is cheaper and is meant to be as good so I will try that when I run out. Not everyone likes it though so might be worth doing a search on here. I find it goes on best after a cleanse and polish, tone and moisturise.

Me too
On the tetralysal now as the metrogel stuff was really drying
I have knocked caffeine on the head, drink my herbal tea with a big splash of cold water and am using factor 50 on my face. HUGE improvement to spots and redness.
I only wash my face with water, and have been using just a simple moisturiser. Am on the look out for tips to improve my routine. Was thinking about trying the clinique anti redness range too.

Liz Earle is ok, doesn't irritate, but Aveeno used in the same way with a muslin cloth is just as good if not better and a third of the price. LE recently changed the formula and imo isn't as good.

I second that Bare essencuals is brilliant at covering the redness. You need practice so beat to go to a dept store like Debenhams and get them to show you what to do then order it MUCH cheaper off the internet

Thank you for your recommendations. I have ordered a sample pot of Mineral Foundation from Lily Lolo. It was only £ 1.95 so not too expensive if it's not suitable.

valiumredhead Which of the Aveeno products do you suggest using with a muslin cloth like Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish?

I have this too, just finished 6 months of tablets, Doxycycline. Felt it helped. Doctor told me to leave off them for a month and then have another 6 months worth, seems a bit odd to me but there you go!
