H.Pylori & other family members???

Can anyone throw any light on this for me as having just been diagnosed recently with Helicobacter Pylori infection I am worried that both my DH & DD may also have this, but GP insists not possible as its not catching

I'm reading various things around the internet & it seems from that, that though not easily caught, it can be, also the way its caught, poor food hygiene etc, means it could well be something we have all picked up together, travelling etc etc

DD has had stomach problems for years & has been under the hospital, with no real joy, though we now manage it well
& more recent years DH has reflux problems & frequent indigestion - though blames work stress & won't see GPHmm

It concerns me that DD in particular has been seeing the same GP as myself for years, & that GP has never tested me for H.Pylori - her maternity leave replacement now has tested me & its positive - but this GP now refuses to test DD as "its not catching"

Does anyone have an knowledge on this - family members all been infected etc

Thank you :)

Hi rockinhippy, I was diagnosed and treated for H Pylori about 12 years ago. I always had a bad stomach and suffered with heartburn and indigestion from a teenager. My dad also had stomach problems and ended up with quite bad ulcers (H Pylori can be a cause) although I don't remember if he was ever tested for H Pylori.
One of my sisters had the same stomach problems as I had and was also found to have it. I think it is quite common to find it in several members of the one family.

Have you been prescribed the triple therapy? It changed my life. I couldn't eat much fruit or currier or anything spicy without suffering.

Apart from heartburn in pregnancy I haven't suffered stomach problems since being treated.

Thanks suiledonne thats pretty much confirmed what I suspected as regards family members - apart from my own, my Mum & Brother also have diagnosed ulcer problems too - I think I really need to try again with the GP for DD & DH

& thats great to hear that it changed your life, I'm REALLY hoping it does mine tooGrin - I've had stomach trouble so long I actually don't remember how long, & like you have to be careful what I eat, or suffer

& yes I have a week course of triple treatment, which I am starting tomorrow - bit worried though, as I've reacted very badly to 2 other acid suppressants & the GP has warned that I may react to the one shes given me too, as its related, but she has no choice - hence why I'm waiting until DH is around for a few days before starting - I was hallucinating & didn't sleep for 2 days after the last oneShock -fingers crossed I fare better with this one
thanks again :)
