Basically I had a UTI last weekend (didn't get it confirmed as it was bank holiday etc..) Pretty sure it was - smelly discoloured urine, pain when going to the loo etc.. going to the loo very very frequently!!!!

This all started on the Friday afternoon until the Monday, when I needed to go back to work on the Tuesday it all seemed okay. ( I had drank gallons of water and drank cranberry juice over the weekend). Wednesday I was suffering again, really low back and stomach pain plus needing to go to the loo often but no smell or discolouration. Got appointment at GPs Thursday and he said no obvious sign of infection as the dipped stick didnt show up anything but still sent off sample.

He felt that my bladder was just being irritable after the infection. Gave me a prescription just in case it became worse again.

Since Thursday all seemed to be going well and I truly believed Dr as it seemed to be how he described it.

Today has been a different matter, some of the symptoms have returned. No smell or discolouration.

I have taken so many AB's in the last 2 years for sinus infections that I really do not want to start taking any more - am so fed up

I still believe Dr etc.... but am left wondering why I am still struggling with this infection after having a couple of clear days!

Obviously I know I have taken a lot of AB's for Sinus infections and this is a UTI - but more AB's! Sad

TBH I'd take the tablets.

Dip stick tests are not always accurate especially if you have drunk a lot and your urine is diluted- they say that you need to have held your urine for 2 hrs sometimes before any bacteria would show on a dipstick.

If your bladder is irritated you should try sutting out caffeine, in tea and coffee, alcohol, acidic drinks such as fruit juices and coke, and just drink mineral water for a few days.

Thanks cabbageroses, will def stop drinking caffeine drinks.

Really struggling today with the uncomfortable feeling of keep on needing the loo and then the last few seconds of emptying my bladder - boy does that hurt! :(

I have started the ABs this afternoon so lets hope they should kick in soon.
