Suffering from this again... have tried steam inhalation and decongestants, but not having much effect. Rather than have antibiotics, I'd rather give alternative methods a try. Any tips? Thanks.

So sinex nasal spray doesn't work for you?
...or sinutab (tablets)?

Just checking since you said you've tried decongestants - have you tried those?, since they work for me....

I know it isn't a home remedy, but if you can see someone who does hopi ear candling, that is supposed to be fabulous for sinus problems.

Massage your fingers (or toes) firmly with your thumb from the tips to base - or get someone else to do it for you. Concentrate on any areas that are painful and particularly the base to first knuckle area. I find it gives relief to all my sinussy clients - 1st/2nd fingers/toes tend to be more painful btw (am a reflexologist) HTH

try cutting out dairy prouducts...you should know within a fortnight if its going to help.
milk/cheese/yoghurt/pizza/icecream etc.

Bioforce Sinuforce herbal remedy works for some people (but not all), and echinacea can boost your immune system which should also help. both available in health shop.

I cut out milk/yoghurt/most cheese 7 years ago and have rarely suffered since. It was hard at first but is the norm now.

Really? - cutting out dairy helps with sinus problems?

Might be worth a try

I seem to remember suzywong recommending garlic on toast ... hang on, let me see if I can find her recipe.

WigWamBam · 08/11/2005 11:48

OK - here's suzywong's sinusitis cure:-

Ok here's what you do
before you go to bed have a very hot shower (it's the steam that will open up your nose)
Then make a piece of toast and mash up two fat cloves of garlic, mix them in soft butter and slather it all over the toast and wolf it down.

Hey presto in the morning you will produce flouro yellow effluent from your cavities and will be feeling much better

hmc, don't know if it works for everyone but it did for me. Certainly worth trying imo. I have now found that there seem to be certain cheeses that I can get away with but milk and yoghurt I can't.

spray your nostrils every night before bed w/some saline solution - I buy 'Sterimer' from the chemist's counter in Boots.

this was recommended to me by an otolaryngologist after many sinus infections and has cut down the number of infections i get per year to only 2 or 3.

cows milk is well known to stimulate snot production and therefore aggravate sinus problems.
