For the first time in ...erm .... ten and a half years! I was terrified about it - the last time I went was for deep root treatment and the horrid dentist lectured me the whole time I was there about looking after my teeth. I was seriously depressed at the time and got such a fright I never went back. So I had an incomplete root treatment and 2 ghastly holes where other teeth had just crumbled away but I was too scared to go and see about them. He was SO nice, no problem, had told me what needs done and set out a plan for dealing with it once I've given birth.
I asked about this about 6 months ago and jasper encouraged me to go - so I thought I'd let you know I'd been. I'm really proud of myself!

well done susanmt! I too went to the dentist today for my followup clean after 7 years of not going (very sensitive teeth and have a real fear of scale & polish).

I took ds with me so I knew I had to be brave and not show fear or discomfort. Still hated it, but at least it was over quick.

I'm very fortunate that I seem to have "got away" with 7 years of neglect... just needed a longer clean.

Susanmt, well done!
Horrid lecturing dentists...GRRRR!

A word of warning. I used to be REALLY scared of the dentist and did not go for many years , from age 16 till early 20s. When I did pluck up courage to go , not only was it no big deal, it was so... INTERESTING... and that's what prompted me to become a dentist as a mature (ish ) student.
You have been warned

I've been brave too! I went in August after not going for 6 years with a general fear of dentists. I was imagining myself to have all sorts of problems but amazingly he said my teeth were quite good and I just had to have a scale! I am going to make myself go every 6 months from now on!

I am very lucky ks because the dentists here are all NHS - we are well served by all aspects of the health service here and the dentist is no exception.
I feel I have a real reason to go because of the children. He said dd's teeth were perfect, and ds is a freak of nature - he has a supernumary tooth behind his second left incisor. The dentist said he'd never seen one there before, and it will have to be pulled when his other teeth fall out as it wont come on its own.
And I am going to get it all fixed for free because I am pregnant - and there is the year afterwards to get it all done. I knew there would be some benefit to all this!
