Anyone here had spinal fusion surgery?

I need your help. I had my spine fused 3 weeks ago and i'm just wondering what is normal. Is a lumpy, almost "foreign object" feeling on the spine normal? When I try to sit back or lie down it feels like i'm lying on something very hard.
Also when does the numbness go? I'm getting irritating feelings of itchiness on my back but when I try to scratch it all my skin is completely numb! It's driving me crazy!

Well mine was 25 years ago so I would imagine very different surgery. There have been so many astounding advances.

I had to wear a plaster cast for a year and the numbness lasted well over a decade.

Yes to foreign object feeling. Yes to itchiness.

Can't really advise as 3 weeks post operation I was still getting used to the very heavy plaster cast and and to roll out of bed because I couldn't sit up. Smile

Thank you yama You are a star! The foreign object thing was really beginning to concern me. When I was still on the tramadol I was imagining all manner of horrible reasons for it! When does it go away?

Crazy that they put you in plaster cast, they had me up and walking two days after my surgery!

Mine was almost thirty years ago....

I wore a plaster cast for 6 months, but don't remember it ever being numb, and the only itciness was a section at the top which was irritated by the plaster.

I still have a lump at the top and bottom of the fused section, though. It is clearly visible if i bend over.

I hope it settles for you soon.
