think I have a UTI - will it go away on its own?

Have had bit of discomfort going to the loo for a couple of weeks but put it down to things being different after having DD (who is 8 weeks) and this was just how my body is now after pg etc.

Pain got worse today and now it feels a bit like I'm weeing fire or sharp blades. I assume it's a UTI. I really don't want antibiotics unless necessary as they mess up my tum. Infact, not sure if I can have abs if I bf Hmm

Thinking about it I've been so busy with DD I often never go to the loo unless I'm desperate so maybe that's the prob.

Please tell me this will go away on its own if I drink tons?

It could be cystitis
you could go to the pharmacy and get an over tge counter remedy

or to your gp in case you need antibiotics

don't leave it though because you don't want it turning into a kidney infection

I second what compo has said. I used to get cystitis a lot when I was younger and you really don't want it to progress to a kidney infection.
I'd go to the doc's as it sounds like you've had it a while and the over the counter stuff only stops your urine from being acidic, doesn't get rid of the infection.
My doc gave me penicillin while I was pregnant so should be ok when BF (am allergic to the usual ABs they prescribe) - don't know if this upsets your tummy too?
Until then I'd take some paracetamol for the pain, if necessary, and drink cranberry juice and water.
Hope you feel better soon!

in 2008 started with cystitis ended up with such a severe kidney infection i was on antibiotics for nearly 5 weeks. Dont leave it, its not worth it.

thanks. I have a post natal check up tomorrow anyway, so I'm hoping to leave it for today and get it checked tomorrow when I'm there, it's just if I can manage another day or not with it. It is slightly better today (as in not right and uncomfy/painful sometimes but not the same badness at peeing ravor blades)
