Scaring on lungs showing on xray?

I was in hospital Thursday night after, what I think was an allergic reaction to my dinner.
While I was in they did an xray, the doctor came to see me and said he was concerned as my xray looked like that of an old lady, and there was scaring on both lungs.
I'm waiting for an appointment but worried about what this means for me.

have you had pneumonia before?

LargeGlassofRed · 24/04/2011 20:41

No I don't think so,
but I had asthma as a child and whooping cough, and smoked for 9 years but not for last 10.
Could that the cause scaring?

The medical term for scarring of the lungs is lung/pulmonary fibrosis. You could try googling to see if anything rings a bell.

But having said that remember googling health things with little knowledge is a Very Bad Idea. It may be better to wait for your appointment.

possibly but it seems unlikely.

did you have breathing problems, is that why you think you had a reaction/allergy?

how old are you?

yes, IPF is pretty rare i think, so best just to wait to see a specialist. you don't want to freak yourself out.

Haven't got breathing problems, only when I'm around animals as I start wheezing, but usually just take an antihismanine.
It was my first reaction to a food.
I'm never ill usually, I've only seen the doctor in the last 10 years for pregnancy or smears.
I do get out of breath when running around but, I've always had that and have but it down to having asthma in the past.

Just googled pulmonary fibrosis, really hope it isn't that!
