started wednesday with severe stomach pains and back ache.
Then up all night with d&v.
Just ate dry toast all day thursday then had egg and chips because its all i fancied.
Had chicken on friday, then sick friday night and diarrhoea yesterday for hours, just water pouring out of me.
Am like a wet rag, exhausted, slept most of the day, managed a boiled egg earlier and a slurp of lear soup for tea but now feel so sick again.
Have lost half a stone.
Dont know what o do, feeling real sorry for myself Sad

A piece of lego.

This is MN after all.

WhatTheActualFuck · 24/04/2011 19:12

On a more serious note...

Dry toast (brown bread, preferably) with either banana or plain scrambled egg (no milk/butter)...recommended by my friend who is a GP.

Now, half a stone you say? Where can I get some of this bug...?

jetgirl · 24/04/2011 19:14

When my sister had gastroenteritis (hospitalised with it) she was told to eat the brat diet - banana, rice, apple and toast.

Hope you feel better soon.

Bunbaker · 24/04/2011 19:17

"(brown bread, preferably) "

Erm, no.
jetgirl is right. The BRAT diet is the way to go - white toast, not brown. The bowels have been working overtime and the bran could irritate.

Oh sweetheart well I'm glad it wasn't what you initially thought, but still, this sounds horrible.

From what you say it sounds too protracted to be a bug - could it be actual food poisoning? It's horrid but if you can get your Dr to send off a sample (blergh) they might be able to give you an antibiotic...depending on what nasty thing is causing it.

Otherwise I would try to rest, drink plenty of weak squash or flat coke etc, flat anything really with a bit of something to replace the elctrolytes you'll have lost. So not just plain water.

Don't try to eat for a day or two. Just keep those fluids coming in.

And call the GP.
Take care sweetie x

Sounds a bit like one of those nasties like salmonella or - you know the sort of thing, proper job sort that stays for a week or so.

Please contact the doctor if you can, maybe out of hours might help you - normal bugs usually go after 24/48 hours, so though chances are it will self resolve with time, sometimes antibiotics actually help.

Ds1 had campylobacter (not quite the same by the sound of it) and it went on for about 10 days. Mostly diarrhoea, as far as I remember - it was tested for and showed up so they offered him antibiotics but he was oK by the time the results came through.

just don't try to eat, give you tummy a chance to sort itself.

MegGriffin · 24/04/2011 19:54

I was going to say salmonella also. I had this a number of years ago and I was ill like that for about 2 weeks. I had to give a sample which is how they diagnosed it. Contact your GP and I hope you feel better soon you poor thing.

Anyone know what the back ache is all about?

Moss do you have a temp? Could be a kidney infection? They can make you feel grim and need treating fast.

Sorry but I really do think you need seeing. Just to rule out stuff y'know?
