DH in hospital with suspected appendicitis

I took him in yesterday afternoon and he has been waiting for an op ever since (well, since this morning certainly). Op keeps getting postponed as more serious cases come in. Obviously, I want more serious cases to be attended to first, but the waiting and postponing is so tiring on the nerves.

At 8pm this evening, dh rang to say he had been visited by anaesthetist and surgeon and op was imminent. Then he texted me at 11:30 to say it has been postponed again. I texted back "how long will this go on for?" and dh replied that it could go on until Tuesday when the full compliment of staff are back in again. TUESDAY!

Why do these things always seem to happen to us over bank holiday weekends?

That is crazy!

Hope your dh isn't too uncomfortable, and hope they tend to him soon.

At least he is being seen. If his appendicitis worsens, he will get done immediately.
Be glad you have the NHS and 'free' healthcare.

Thanks for replies. Yes I am grateful for the NHS, but that doesn't make the waiting to find out what is wrong with my dh easier. Fingers crossed that they can fitt him in today...

They will be monitoring him closely, he's in the right place.

I hope it doesnt rupture as that can be much worse--should make a fuss if hes feeling grim

mosschops30 · 24/04/2011 07:41

The emergency theatre is a hard enough place to run even on a normal day when you can put overspill into other theatres.
Of course this probably isnt possible over bank hols and weekends.
I know its shit for you and your dh but the fight to get patients in mergency theatre is hard and everyone is coded.
Sorry but an appendicitis isnt coded that high. I know thats not what you want to hear.
Make sure he tells them if he starts feeling worse

TotalChaos · 24/04/2011 08:34

sorry this had to happen over bank holiday, hope he gets the op done soon.

OrangeBernard · 24/04/2011 09:30

If it looks like its going to rupture they will whip him in quick smart.
