Swollen stomach and weird "popping" movements inside

fanjolina · 20/04/2011 17:13

before I explain my symptoms, let me say that there is no way I can be pregnant!

I frequently get a very swollen stomach, which happens intermittently. When it does, I look about 7 months pregnant.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have also been getting a weird feeling internally - lower down to the left or right of my stomach. It feels almost like something is popping inside. This has occurred once every 3 days or so.

Is it worth googling about, or am I just going to start worrying myself? And do these symptoms sound like anything anyone here recognises?

Thanks.

IBS? Are you stressed?

cocolepew · 20/04/2011 17:17

Def IBS, you're probably eating something that's doing this, it's spuds with me.

fanjolina · 20/04/2011 17:17

Not particularly stressed. I have a hectic life, as most mums do!

I'll look into IBS symptoms. What is worrying me is the internal popping/movement feeling. If I didn't know 100% that I couldn't be pregnant, I would be worrying I had a baby in there!

OK, 2 votes for IBS - I'll look into that - thank you.

(Can now stop worrying about much worse things!)

The internal popping/movement is most probably trapped air and poo, moving through your intestines. Sounds like IBS to me.

cocolepew · 20/04/2011 17:22

My insides were popping so much the other day I was sure someone would notice. It was like having a frog inside my bowel (nice)

laptopwieldingharpy · 20/04/2011 17:24

simply bloated?
go on a little diet for a week?
I do no dairy (except greek yogurt), no gluten, reduce salt and lots of herbal teas.
sometimes its just a little metabolism overload?

belledechocchipcookie · 20/04/2011 17:26

Don't assume it's IBS without being tested for other things. You should see your GP and ask for a referal to a gastroenterologist. IBS should only be diagnosed once other conditions (like chrones) have been excluded.

I don't mean to frighten you, a good friend was admitted to hospital last year with bloating and they found that she had bowel cancer, no other symptoms at all. It's best to get it checked.

fanjolina · 20/04/2011 18:23

oh belle, I had managed to rid my mind of such fears with everyone concluding IBS!

Gross re the trapped air and poo OMDB!

laptop - I think I'll do a detox similar to your style of eating and see if things clear up. If not, I will get checked out by the GP.

Thanks all for your advice

Medically the doctors shouldn't diagnose IBS without excluding everything else first, it's the guidelines I'm afraid.

hi guys, i have had IBS for 5.5 years now and recently i have experienced this popping sensation in my tummy when im not eating, is there any explanation for this. because personally im beginning to think that i have something other than IBS

kscott82 · 30/12/2018 08:19

Ive been unwell with bloating and chronic 24hr “popping and weird movements” for about 8 weeks now to the point I’m needing assistance to sleep . Had all the bloods , ultrasound , X-ray and even a CT no baby apparently yet it’s the only feeling I can liken it too. I’ve had ibs since I was 15 this is definitely not it for me yet I still have no answers 😔😔😔. Reassuring that I’m not alone though . Drs are making me feel crazy

Lolzybeans · 22/02/2019 22:16

Have you had any results yet? I am also experiencing these types of symptoms

rightreckoner · 23/02/2019 09:55

I’ve had this since Jan. More of a grumbling bowel than popping but definitely not right. Dr ran all the tests - bloods for ovarian cancer, stool sample, ultrasound. There is absolutely nothing wrong with me. Possibly IBS due to stress.

So I would talk to the GP and get the tests done. I was quite glad as it felt like having a bit of an MOT Smile

VioletBedframe · 23/02/2019 11:03

I’d be straight to the doctor with this. Sorry, but my friend had this and it was cancer. It’s no good waiting. You might be fine but it has to be checked out.

Sscho92 · 05/07/2020 00:33

Ive been going the though the same in so much pain with it too 😣 I've had bloods, ultrasounds, CT scans nothing now got to wait three months for hospital appointment.

Joysoflife · 07/11/2020 01:27

Did you find out what was the problem? I’v been in pain for a week and doctors first said muscular pain, now gastritis. But wonder if you’ve got a definite answer

Malis444 · 06/04/2021 19:43

I have been experiencing popping/ bubbling and weird movements in my bowel/pelvic area for months now it’s like a discomfort which makes it hard for me to sleep at night and is just annoying me throughout the day. I also get pain and bloating, however it is not triggered by anything and is just there all the time.

If anyone has any theories of what they think it may be please reply.

I know this is an old thread but hopefully we can revive it. I am experiencing the same, I do suffer from IBS but the gurgling and popping/bubbling is driving me insane, it wakes me up at night and keeps me awake whilst my guts pop and gurgle for hours. I get gassy and bloated in the evening too even though I follow the low fodmap diet and so careful what I eat. My gp and gastroenterologist just don’t want to know, say it’s IBS. I’ve tried everything to lessen it.
Galwaygirl · 07/04/2021 12:37

Hi OP, experiencing this for weeks now with loose stiols and stomach pain. I think I am going to sound mad when I say this but on Sunday I deep cleaned all the toilets and had no windows open and when I did a poop there was definitely a bug in my stool, like an 8 legged thing, nicely decomposing!!! Google of course told me its possible for parasites to live in the bowel which explains some of the symptoms I have been having, gross!!! I am attending my GP next week but since that stool episode, my stomach is feeling ok which leads me to believe the parasite has been excreted, gross again!!!

Prliz26 · 02/07/2021 08:26

Wow I’m reAding all of these and I been going though this for 3 years it wasn’t so bad until this year I’m going though this every night I have to elevate my head to feel alittle at ease but the popping is so bad I feel like my stomach is going to explode as anyone got a Diagnoses besides IBS it’s driving me crazy yes I’ve been to GI and ran all tests and nothing please help

This is a quote from a book about the bodily transformations that occur along the spiritual path; the symptoms seem to match up exactly to some of the descriptions I read in some posts in this thread. The reason I'm sharing this is to offer a different perspective or avenue to perhaps explore, for those that have tried but can't get any satisfactory answers.Traditional Chinese Medicine or Ayurvedic Medicine are a couple that come to mind.

"The first sign of the opening of the Jen Mai ( a major meridian /energy channel in Traditional Chinese Medicine) is that there is chi (life force energy, orgone, prana, etc.) bubbling or vibrating in the intestines and stomach; one feels these vibrations like air bubbling in the stomach." page 54 " Tao & Longevity: Mind-Body Transformation" by Nan Huai-Chin.

In this book, these symptoms (and others) are described as part of a natural process of cleaning or renewal within the body. Again I'm just trying to offer a possible alternative explanation for those that are stumped by their experience. Naturally, I'm not suggesting that everyone experiencing these symptoms are going through this
process and of course you should consult your doctor.

Best wishes

I experienced this popping on the pregnancy of my son who is sixteen now. Then I felt it yesterday and today. So I looked it up and found this post. I am 100% not pregnant. It’s not possible. I got bloods done lately and they came back with inflammation. I’m on a four year list now because they think it’s rheumatoid problems. I’m so worried. The doctors won’t do anything.

OP it's probably a diet thing. I get it when I eat sandwiches on the hoof instead of sit down ordinary dinners.
Get a couple of good meals into you some fresh air and relaxation.
