Hi,

my DS has always been quite sweaty when doing something physical. It's becoming more noticeable as he grows up. He went to a dance party today and was totally drenched by the end. It's on his head and face. He goes bright red, too. He's not fat and seems in good health. Should I be worried do you think? None of the other children seemed anywhere near as sweaty.

Sounds like a condition called hyperhydrosis or some call it 'sweaty betty'.

I have this...I dont sweat excessively under my arms, but my hair line, round the back of my ears, and palms sweat terribly after the slightest exercise. I went to my gp about it before I knew what it was and her stupid advice was to use an all over deodorant. Which I thought absolutely ridiculous tbh.

I would have been using a can of spray a day if a did that!!..

Then i saw a tv programme about it a few years ago on I think channel4 or it could have been 5... And it explained all about it. It is to do with excessive sweat glands round your body. There are some treatments involving Botox, or surgery but neither are very successful, so I have learnt to accept the condition now instead of worrying about it.

I remember as a child getting really embarrassed about holding hands to play etc as my hands were always wet. I now just explain to people it is a medical condition and that helps...people are more sympathetic now.

Take him to gp to get a diagnosis...it has been a few years since I mentioned it to gp so maybe there are new treatments available now that weren't around when I was first diagnosed.

my son is just the same sometimes in the summer it looks like someone has thrown a bucket of water over his head hes so drenched especially if hes been running around.to be honest i have never worried about it and just made sure his hairs shorter during the summer months and given him plenty of drinks,i see it as just the way my sons made.
