pain in kidney area

i have a minor kidney abnormality (right side) which causes me to have a lot of UTI, though haven't had one in about 8 months now. but the right kidney is quite scarred from neglected UTI when i was a child.
since this afternoon i've got this pain. it hurts a LOT, constantly and very concentrated on my right kidney area. i have no other symptoms of UTI or kidney infection. no fever, no pain or burning when going to the loo. i drink plenty of water every day.
also, i'm 9 weeks pregnant.
any thoughts? anything i can do?

I don't know what it might be or what you can do, but it sounds as if you should probably see the GP and get it checked out.

lilac, you need to be very careful with kidney probs and pg

do you have a renal consultant? i would make sure your gp has informed him of your pg

make an appt with your gp, take a urine sample with you and he can do a dipstick, and he may take bloods to check your U&E's etc

do you have regular check ups at a clinic? like U&E's hb etc

i had loads of tests done about 2 years ago and the consultant said they didn't need to see me anymore. i was advised to just go to my GP when i suspected an infection. so i haven't been in contact with anyone there, just my GP. there haven't been any regular tests and when i did go to complain of an infection the GP just took my word for it and prescribed me anti-biotics without testing. i think i will go to the GP in the morning (no need for appointment) as it is really getting very bad. i forgot to mention in my original post, i had quite dark urine earlier.

please try and take a sample with you

kidney probs and pg are not a good mix (although plenty of people have no probs and/or only minor hitches!)

im sure its something simple but you need to be looked after

right, i'm back.
the sample i took in was positive on having an infection. so he's given me anti-biotics and he's sent the specimen off to be tested. thanks for sending me, nailpolish and wigwambam, seems i really needed to.

that sounds ok, hope the antibiotics works and im really glad hes sent it off

will you call and get the results?

it sounds like hes given you a wide spectrum antibiotic, and if they test it in the lab they will know what more specific antibiotic is relevant (although the one you have may well be that)

what has he given you?

they ring if the results are positive. he's prescribed 'amoxicillin', which actually scarily says "only recommended for use during pregnancy when the benefits of the drug outweigh the possible hazzards to the unborn baby".

if i was you i wouldnt worry about taking the ab's
