I think being on the mini pill has made me a bit nutty... am I the only one?

I have been taking Noriday (mainly because I was prescribe cerazette and we had a shortage around here!) and honestly I think it has made me feel a bit crazy. I have felt a bit low in myself- sometimes anxious beyond all reason and sometimes I have felt my self esteem has been completely non existent. Yes I know it could be post natal stuff but I have had a lot of babies and my newest one is a dream and not suffering from sleep deprivation or anything like that. I was told by the Doc to take two a day because of weighing 14 stone.... I guess this does not help.

So I have stopped taking it as I do really feel it has made me feel really flat. DH also thinks I am a bit bitchy on them too (he put it in a nicer way than that but this was the subtext)

So is it just me or can these pills make you a bit loony tunes - also I have not had a period for at least 4 months which is disconcerting to say the least!

No It's not just you!!!

I took the mini pill and had all sorts of strange symptoms, especially anxiety. I stopped taking the mini pill for other reasons and almost instantly felt better. Once I'd finished DH told me that he had noticed the difference in me whilst I was on them.

So you're not alone. At least there are two of us Grin

Thank goodness I thought i was a bit batty - and yes - the anxiety was DREADFUL and has for the most part really receded since I stopped taking them.

Definitely not just you. I took it for 3 months - never stopped bleeding and when I stopped taking it I felt like a fog lifted.

There was a long thread about it a couple of years ago. I can't find it at the moment.

Yep, I took Yazmin for a few weeks and it sent me absolutely crazy. I was a different person. Once I stopped taking it, I was fine again. I then went on Yaz which is a different pill and felt absolutely vile for the entire time I was on it. I had to take it to regulate my cycle as we are doing IVF. Otherwise there is no way I would have put myself through that.

The pill did not used to do this to people. It is the new pills that are bad. If you Google any of the brand names, you will come up with pages and pages of lawsuits.

Running - my experience was quite the opposite; I haven't had a period the whole time I have been taking them although my periods did start after I had my son even though I was and still am breastfeeding - despite stopping them a couple of weeks ago I have not had a period yet..... yes yes I have done a test and it was a bfn - but am still waiting for my period to make an appearance.

You are def not alone! I used a contraceptive pill for several years and never had a problem using it..everythin was how it should have been so after a couple of months of giving birth to my now 7 month old Son, my doctor put me back on to the same pill and I had never felt so emotional, depressed and aggressive in my entire life! My personality literally changed over night and I wouldnt talk about how I was feeling either because I was scared of being told I had Post Natal Depression or something. After a couple of weeks I had forgotten to take a few pills and it was then that I notcied I felt normal again - happy, so for a tester I started taking the pill again and before I knew it I was back in that bad place. I spoke to my doctor about this and he said it was fairly common for that to happen because of a certain hormone the pill had in it and all the hormones still in my body so he prescribed me another brand which I have been fine on.

MrsPumphrey · 21/04/2011 18:22

yes I found they made me feel very low... and I also got terribly persistent, very large mouth ulcers- actually went to my dentist fearing goodness knows what as they just wouldn't clear up and dentist suggested it might be hormonal... stopped mini pill and everything fine.
