Anyone experienced recurrent postnatal hair loss?

Hi

Not sure if this is the best place to post, but couldn't think where else to put it.

Anyway, DD2 is almost 13 mo. My (very thick, dark) hair began falling out last summer when she was about 5 months. I wore a wide headband most of the time as my hairline did start to recede quite a bit! Anyway, this went on for a few months, then slowed and stopped.

Thing is, it started up again about 4-6 weeks ago (when DD2 was about 11 months) and is coming out in great clumps again in the shower.

My question is, is this normal, bearing in mind that hair grows in cycles, I presume it must also fall out in cycles and that this could be the extra hair that grew during the latter part of my pregnancy.

My other theory is that I had a very bad virus/chest infection throughout February and wonder if this could be the 'fallout' from that?

A friend did tell me that she had hairloss every three months for the first year or so after her son was born, but I haven't seen her recently to ask her more about it.

So, if anyone else has had hairloss which stopped and then started up again, I'd love to hear about it!

Hi messylittlemonkey. No advice here I am afraid, but I am in a similar situation to you atm.

My ds was born 14 months ago and I too had hair loss at around the 4 month stage, which I also had with my first dd. In the last couple of weeks I have noticed a lot of hair loss in the shower, whilst combing, drying etc. I am perhaps slightly more stressed than usual (hideous neighbours just moved in next door),but have not been ill or anything.

Hoping this is normal! Anyone...?
