hi all

my mum has suffered anxiety and depression over the last few years but with tabs and counselling she seemed to have turned a corner.

these last few days though she has been getting stressed and teary and im not sure how to help her. we have got a lot going on in the family, my brother has moved out and my sis is having a baby so i think this has brought it on.

Any advice would be great thanks

Talk to her and distract her - getting out into the fresh air would be good, too.

Hi there only advice i can give you is just be patient and just be there for her, i had a breakdown 10yrs ago and am still struggling with severe depression and anxiety but have to say my mum has supported me and been my rock all the way through it, she had breast cancer back in 2004 she was 60yrs old she went through a mastectomy and has come out the other end a stronger person, she did suffer bouts of depression with goin through chemo but got through it, but now i am causing her more heartache and worry as i have just been diagnosed with breast cancer and am due to go for my mastectomy on the 15th april and am so frightened this will pull her down as she has been very well health wise since her breast cancer.....

Just love and try your best to protect your mum always remember you will only have one mum and hopefully she is your best friend like my mum is to me...

Hugs Ruthie xxx

poor mum - she might be interested in Mindfulness -which is becoming more and more popular and is very effective in helping people manage anxiety and depression. I have had OCD on and off for many years and have had all kinds of treatment but recently did an 8 week Mindfulness course which has really helped...I'll find the link for it.
lilruthie- might help your mum too-you might also find that she will be strong throughout your treatment rather than relapsing. Hope all goes well for you- if you'd like some friendly support we're on the Tamoxifen thread -everyone has or is having treatment for breast cancer and it is a lovely thread, lovely people...
