my dad has very weak leg muscles and the odd occasion he can not move or collapses without warning. He lives on his own

It's getting to the point now that when it happens, he cannot move, it's very frightening and he wont get better I know as the muscles are too weak to re-strengthen now - he is 80 next year.

Just want to know what to expect for the future

sorry, no help at all, but my dad suffers from a similar condition. He has had scans and all kinds of tests but no conclusion as to what causes it. A chiropractor has helped to relieve some of his symptoms.

This doesn't sound like normal ageing - he needs GP visit and referral .
Don't be fobbed off - I work with elderly and this is not just a side effect of getting older.

Does he have any of these signs? He may have intermittent claudication and he needs to go to the doctor to be checked.

no dont think its this Thumbwitch ... but will print this off and take to his Dr's soon.

He was rushed into hospital last night after collapsing and not been able to get up off the floor. He was diaganosed with high temp, chest infection and as he has emphasema (spell) the Dr said that his lungs cant cope with infection and hi sbody short of shuts down? Also said he has a mild form of neumonia BUT sent him home this evening with anti-biotics

All very strange and upsetting
