Bitter taste - anyone have an explanation?

A few times recently I have experienced a sudden bitter taste in my mouth for no apparent reason. One time it was when drinking a cup of tea (others had tea from the same pot that tasted normal). Today it started when I was just about to eat my lunch but had not yet eaten anything. Has anyone else had this and did you ever work out what was causing it?

It happened to me a few times and I discovered that it was caused by eating pine nuts. I used to eat a seeds and nuts mix for snack every day and once I stopped it the bitter taste went in about a week.Have you eaten pine nuts recently? Apparently even a small amount can cause this type of reaction.

Now - bear with me on this one! But have you had pine nuts recently? If so, Google 'bitter taste pine nuts' It sorted my problem in an instant! Grin

My DH had the same reaction to pine nuts - apparently it's only the ones that come from a certain place because of the way in which they're grown.(China possibly?). He stopped eating them and it went after a week or so.

Haven't knowingly eaten pine nuts! But I don't check the ingredients list on everything I eat, so I suppose it's possible I eat something which had pine nuts among the ingredients Confused

I had a bad case of pine mouth after eating pine nuts, it lasted for over a week, it's horrible. I got it from a bag of mixed nuts and seeds. I think you can get it from the pine nuts in pesto sauce, or possibly seeded bread.

It took me a few days to work out what it was, worrying I had liver problems, mouth cancer etc.

I was going to say pine nuts too, especially if it's a metallic kind of taste. Maybe something like pesto with pine nuts in the ingredients?

I'm sure there are other possible causes though!

jalopy · 25/03/2011 20:43

Sounds like acid reflux.

needcoffee1982 · 27/03/2011 15:07

could it be bleeding gums. i get a metal taste when my gums bleed, they have been on and off ever since having my DS
