Should I be able to taste eyedrops?

I know, I know stupid question.

I got anti-septic eyedrops yesterday as I have conjunctivitus and every time I use them (1 drop in each eye every 2 hours) I get a horrid taste which makes me wretch about half an hour later.

I have not used eyedrops since I was very young so can't remember if this is normal but it is bloody foul.

It's grim, isn't it.. they run down behind your eyes and down the back of your throat, which is why you can taste them (sorry, I have little/no anatomical knowledge)

MadreInglese · 25/03/2011 13:09

dunno but I guess throat/nose/tearducts/etc are all connected...

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 25/03/2011 13:10

Eustachian tubes, apparently

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 25/03/2011 13:11

...or maybe that's ears

MadreInglese · 25/03/2011 13:14

it's all ENT though isn't it, like when blowing and holding your nose makes your ears pop, or those odd people who can cry milk

Yes - all the tubes are linked up in some way so you can taste drops that you put in your eyes.

upyourdiva · 25/03/2011 13:26

:o Reality

I thought it was a bit odd, I knew thaht the ear, nose and throat are all connected but I never thought about the eyes.

Oh well I just have to put up with it then...

Lacrimal duct (tear duct in other words), drains into back of nose and then throat, so you may taste the anti-biotic to some extent

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 25/03/2011 20:02

Yes you should be able to. I had a corneal abrasion and the doctor put iodine drops in my eye. They are bright yellow and immediately I was blowing yellow liquid out of my nose and spitting out yellow stuff. He said it was completely normal as all connected.

0891 · 25/03/2011 20:03

is this why I can blow air through my tear ducts?

NorthernGobshite · 25/03/2011 20:18

Yep, its normal.

lilyliz · 26/03/2011 16:11

all connected so yes it will happen.Reading the replies I was thinking of all the party tricks we could do.

follyfoot · 26/03/2011 16:19

anonamater is right. Its your lacrymal ducts...
