Stress delaying period?

I know this is quite a common thing but I'm after some wisdom. I've had a terrible month with lots of stress and a bereavement and I'm now 3 or 4 days late. Pretty sure I'm not pregnant, which I know lots of people will suggest. My question is, if it was stress delaying my period, would I stll get period pain? I've spent the last 2 days convinced I'm about to come on, but nada. Shall I just put it down to the stress and just wait til it shows up? And how long can it be delayed? Is it possible to skip a period altogether?
