son breathing heavily in evening, could it be asthma?

he sort of gulps air loudly and says he feels like he can't breathe properly, obviously i will take him to the doctors but could it be asthma starting? he's 9 no trouble before

It could be a simple as chest infection. Please do take him to your GP. It is better to have it checked out. Prevention is so much better than letting it get out of hand. See link

If he says he can't breathe properly then yes, I'd take him to the doctor's.
