I've been googling too much and need calming down a bit.

I posted the other day about a swollen lymph node in my neck and as advised have been to dr's today. She has arranged a blood test for tomorrow and a follow up appointment in a week.

She did say reassuring things about the shape of the swollen gland and the fact no other glands were swollen but she did also mention a possible biopsy depending on what the blood results show.

But I've broken all my rules about googling and quite frankly have scared myself shitless. I used to suffer really badly from health anxiety but have had it under control for the last few years but those old feelings of terror are coming back.

How do I get through the next week waiting for blood results. Am kicking myself for not going to doctor sooner.

Never Google.

It is usually not the worst case scenario.

I presume you are freaking about lymphoma cancery type things.

It is comparatively rare (work in this area)

Hands Connor a large glass of Wine and sends unmumsnetty hug xx

Oh, poor you.
But I recall from your other thread that it was tiny (pea sized, right?) and in the place where it should be, iyswim.

I think the doctor is just being very careful, tbh.

I think in lymphomas etc they grow a lot and very quickly.

MavisEnderby · 10/03/2011 21:34

yes, what winny said also other associated symptoms.

DO NOT GOOGLE ANY MORE,MADAM!!!!!!!!

MerryMarigold · 10/03/2011 21:37

If you know you suffer from health anxiety then I'm sure you also know deep down that this anxiousness is a symptom of that (& googling Grin)

I had a lump on the back of my neck for several years. Suddenly got painful and was growing rapidly. Got a bit worried and finally went to doc about it. It was an infected cyst. 2 courses of antibiotics later the whole thing erupted, infection all came out and the original cyst too Shock. It was really amazing!! I was amazed at what my body could do (with a lot of visits to the nurse to clean it and keep an eye on it). I had a huge hole left behind which has now entirely healed up! We are amazing. You will be fine.

My DD has had this a couple of times. The first time it was diagnosed as an infection (atypical mycobacteria) which had lodged in the gland, the second time was explained as 'she's obviously prone to swollen glands'. She has had a barrage of blood tests, a TB test, a chest x-ray and an ultrasound.

She's fine.

winnybella · 10/03/2011 21:39

And to possibly calm you down, I had a much bigger node low in the armpit, gyneco send me for an ultrasound, had that and mammography, they said it was only an inflamed node (and they inflame really easily, btw) and to possibly do a biopsy if it doesn't go down in a few months. So they have to be cateful around lymph nodes/lumps, but it doesn't mean it's anything serious.

Tbh, it was a year ago and it's still the same size Confused. Perhaps I'll go for another ultrasound. Hmm. But no other nodes anywhere are bigger, so I'm guessing it's ok.

Thank you for wine, hugs and reassurance!

The dr said it was larger than pea size which having felt it some more it is. I'm kicking myself for googling. Will stop.

Merry that sounds gross! But Preferable to anything I've googled!! It' s been swollen since new year so i guess she has to be cautious. Obviously my health anxiety was on holiday for a while or I would have gone sooner.

Yes she sounds like good Gp.

I've had one on my neck for well over ten years. I did have a blood test, which was clear. I figure, I'd know by now if it was anything sinister.
