Anyone got a copper coil? Could do with some advice. TMI probably....

I had a copper coil put in at the start of my last cycle, and have now got my first post-coil period. I was warned that the coil might make my periods heavier, but I was in no way prepared for the blood bath I am currently experiencing. I have been literally gushing blood for 6 days now, and it's showing no signs of letting up. Blood floods everywhere everytime I stand up or lift DD. Super plus tampon plus pad lasting less than an hour a lot of the time.

So will this settle down or do I go and get it removed now? I'm seriously regretting having it put in in the first place at the minute.

I was trying to avoid the mirena because I took cerazette whilst bf and bled every day. Can't go back on the combined pill due to high BMI and age (although a bit Confused that 30 is too old.) I guess if I have this coil removed it will be condoms or nothing!

Any advice/experience gratefully received.

very surprised you cannot go back on the pill-nowadays you can stay on it until the menopause as long as you are a fit non-smoker. maybe an incentive to lose weight?

I had a copper coil for a few weeks. During that time I did not stop bleeding apart from 3 days- had a period and then constant spotting. It was trying to work its way out I found out later- and had it removed.
I think you really must go back to drs or wherever you had it fitted, asap.

I also bled horrendously on the copper coil. Managed better with a mooncup, as it seems to hold more, but still couldn't go more than 2 hours between emptying. After 6 months got a mirena instead, which seems fine ( although I have put on weight, but may not be linked)

i had one fitted in november and took out in december, i have never had heavy periods but after 10 days of constant flooding, enough was enough had mirena, have spotted inbetween but nothing to serious.........

Thanks for the replies. I will head back to the doctor.......just worried she will say I need to leave it in longer to "settle down" or something! I'm not putting up with another period like this Smile
