Any tips for reducing a high temperature in 3 year old - calpol not working

I'm totally baffled one minute he's fine the then next he's not. He's complaining of tummy pains has a rash round his mouth and has a cough that has little let up then all of a sudden he'll be fine.
Have called doctors and taking him up to hospital in a min to be sure its nothing serious.
It's the rash round mouth thats baffling me it looks like lots of little cold sores all over his chin and mouth area but not on his actual lips.

Just got back they said he has a chest infection water infection and infected spots round his mouth and he has some round his tail too. Poor little soul....off to give him lots of TLC
