dh has been complaining of a sore patch on the top of his head (top right hand side) for about a week.
today he is really complaining, i have looked and looked, can't see any redness or a spot or ingrown hair or anything.
now he says the lower right hand side of his neck is aching.

he is due to fly to the US tomorrow

should he be worried? a search on NHS direct doesn't come up with anything.

he doesn't have a bad headache, but is exhausted (has worked very long hard hours the past few weeks)

TIA

I had shingles on the right hand side of my head, that might be worth checking - I just had one tiny spot to start with before the rash came out properly. My rash bore little resemblance to the extreme cases you see pictures of if you google. The pain is hard to describe but a sort of combination of wasp stings and electric shocks as the nerves fire off. Plus feeling generally poorly and tired.

I don't know if you always get a rash, - absence of one might mean it's unlikely your DH has it, but I thought I'd suggest it as a possibility Smile

Oh meant to say if you think shingles is a possibility, the sooner you get anti-virals from the GP the better.

thanks Kurri,
no sign of a rash and he has gone to the airport. he wasn't moaning so much about it this morning, just rubbing his neck a lot. Hopefully all will be ok.

Sounds like shingles.

amidaiwish · 06/03/2011 16:04

oh no, that really wouldn't be good.
he is in the US now, what should he look out for?

A rash on his head, down his face, feeling generally unwell. If any sort of blisters or rash appear he should try to get some antivirals asap.

I am not sure if his insurance will cover it as he had symptoms before travelling. Sad

he is travelling with work (a big US corporate) so i am not worried about that side of things. they will pay for whatever is required i am sure.

i have told him to look out for any sign of a rash, tingliness or numbness. i need to be quite specific as he will be tired/jet lagged so won't recognise symptoms of feeling generally unwell i don't think.

he said he is fine Hmm
anyway he has a stressful busy day today but after that i think it is fairly easy going, so he will come home if he is ill. i hope so anyway.
