Hi just thought Id ask you nice mumnetters for any advice.

Ive recently being suffering with fatigue, I've put on weight (cant loose it).Ive got low mood, get irrratable easily, & just want to be a Veggie all day, just got no energy to nothing. Everything seems an effort. Oh yea- Low Sex Drive too.

This is unusual for me as Im always on the go-cant sit down, bursting with energy etc.

I was reading a magazine last night & it had something in it regarding Underactive thyroid, & my symptoms fit.

Im not depressed, although Im on AD's, have been to few years. Im on my first week of weeening off them.

This has been going on for quite a few weeks now.
Do you think I should see my GP & ask for a blood test, or do you think Im overeacting.

Any advice would be grateful

I dont know if im turning into a hypochondriac. I went to gp because I have been having terrible trouble with pmt. It seems like I have it all the time, one day weepy next day extremely angry. Anyway like a fool I burst out crying and told him, how stressed I was a work etc etc. He thinks I maybe depressed or could possibley have a thyroid problem. I have read up on thyroid symptoms and I seem to have a few but I dont know if Im just reading symptoms into it so to speak.

I have terrible pmt
periods seem to be closer together than they should be, about every 3 weeks.
Feel very low
always tired but takes me hours to get to sleep.
Loss of libido
Weight problems
Aching hips
Often feel like I have a lump in my throat[ I put this down to too much snmoking]

i wont go on as ive now convinced myself that I am a Hypo! Im going for blood tests on Wednesday, so hopefully all will be revealed. Im just wondering if like suzywong, ive had this for a while and it has been missed. Sorry late night rambling but I feel really low.

suzywong · 31/10/2005 00:15

hello lucy

well it does sound like it, I still have the bad pmt and aching hips but only right before a period

It sounds like you are lucky with your gp as he has at least brought thyroid problems in to the arena. Did he feel your throat for a goitre? That could be the lump.

Anyway keep us posted about the test results

spookylucy · 31/10/2005 00:19

yes he did feel my throat. He asked me to swallow but i was so nervous my mouth went dry and I couldnt really do it properly [ no rude comments dropinthe]. Thanks SW.

jabberwitchy · 31/10/2005 01:25

You can also have problems sleeping, dry skin and hair and brittle nails with low thyroid.

spookylucy · 31/10/2005 08:53

Thanks Jabber, I do have probs getting to sleep but my hair and nails are ok. I think I might be talking myself into this as I dont want to take ads.

jabberwitchy · 31/10/2005 15:19

Not to worry, they can easily tell for sure with a simple blood test.

MusicLover · 31/10/2005 23:02

Hi all...Can you believe I started this thread 11 days ago & I've not even made a GP appnt, yet I'm still felling the same & worried slightly.

I can't believe so many people feel & have the same symtons too.

callmemadam It got me thinking when I read it in a mag, but the think that has got me more worried is the weight gane. Ive never been this big in my life. Ive always been fluctuating, I can put it on & loose it easily. But I'm not even over eating, pigging on rubbish-Nothing! But my Stomach & breast have grown so much. I wasn't tis big after having my dc's.

Well I feel so much better reading the rest of this thread.
Ive not even been on the PC as I just couldn't be arsed to switch it on, thats how damm bloody lazy & cant be arsed to nothing Ive been feeling. How is that.

But bless My Hubby has jsut rang me-he's on his way home from playing darts!! "what do I want from the Chinese" HMMe well theres me saying I dont pig out on rubbish.

Thanks MNers for all your info. I WILL make a gp appnt- HONEST.

So glad I'm not alone.

Well Ive been for my blood tests and have to wait until Monday for the results. Either way it will be good to know! I had to sit in the doctors for 20 minutes though as I wouldnt stop bleeding, weird!

jabberwocky · 03/11/2005 00:34

Well done, SL

suzywong · 03/11/2005 04:46

yes well done
and MusicLover get your a&se in gear and get to the GP!

bumptobabies · 03/11/2005 07:41

reflexology is great for this

lucycinco · 07/11/2005 21:56

Well ive had my resukts and its not thyroid or hormone imbalance. Any ideas as to why I feel so awful. Im tired, achy, grumpy, midly depressed. Am I turning into a hypochondriac?

sunchowder · 07/11/2005 22:09

Human Growth Hormone Deficiency could be a start, that would be a special test where they actually freeze some of the platelets to get the results.

Is your Iron ok? Also, and hugely, If you are weaning off of your AD's, you might be exhuasted for weeks. It took me 3 full months to feel energized after I cut my dosage in half. I was on Celexa (American brand name I think) and I went from 20MG to 10MG. I am holding at 10MG, I had no idea that was what the withdrawal was like, but all I wanted to do was sleep every few hours. I thought it was a menapausal thing too--I have a thyroid condition, I take synthroid for that and I am also very, very overweight.

Ask your doctor about those things for a start. I am not a doctor, just a MOM so you must take these things with a large grain of salt! Just talking from my own experience Lucy.

lucycinco · 07/11/2005 22:32

Thanks, I havent started on ads as I just cant face them. The Doctor Tested for loads of things and I came out fine in everything. Although he talked me through it, I cant remember as Its all written in Spanish. Would a test for iron be one of the bog standrd tests! Theres 3 pages of results!

sunchowder · 07/11/2005 22:33

Ah shit--I got the symptoms mixed up for you Lucy and Musiclover!!! Where can I go to get diagnosed now???

Exhaustion with weight loss could also be related the the adrenal glands, Addisons Disease is rare, but it also causes disorientation, etc. it usually goes along with skin pigmentation darkening and several other symptoms--hopefully this is not something that you have.

The pituitary gland goes into overdrive when the thyroid is not working properly in order to compensate--but you were both told it wasn't thyroid....best to keep pushing for answers tho

lucycinco · 07/11/2005 22:43

Thanks, the dr thinks I have mild depression caused by stress at work . I hate to argue with the professionals but I know my body and something just doesnt seem right!
