Periods not returning 6mths after baby

I have been exclusively breast feeding my baby since birth and have not had a period since having him - bleed for 8wks after having him the nothing, started weaning 4wks ago just purreed veg and baby rice now twice a day but still breastfeeds same amount as before.

I have read its normal when breastfeeding not to ovulate so wouldnt have a period and know mums who havent for first few mths but no-one who has gone 6mths

should I see the doctor or leave it a bit longer?

I didn't have periods till I totally stopped (but then I've got PCOS and never ovulated regularly anyway)

Breastfeeding does affect your hormones and prolactin (the main hormone involved in milk production) does inhibit ovulation.

Every woman is different in this respect, so that some women find their periods return as soon as they cut down their breastfeeding eg when baby gets interested in solids, and some women find their periods do not return until they stop feeding altogether

So I'd say, you're normal esp if he's still taking a lot of milk. HTH

Thankyou thought it was normal but its nice to know for sure- not complaining I suffer with very very heavy painful periods and was on pill for 6yrs taking all the time with no break as advised by consultant until a yr before I fell pregnant so glad not to have periods,

yes he does like a lot of milk he is a big boy!

Mine didn't return until DD was 13 months, and they're still not back now I'm BFing DS (12 months).

I was 10 months after my dd. Not sure about DS cause I went on the contraceptive implant, but know of others who waited a while. Enjoy it!

Mine came back around 7 months after DD1 & still aren't back 6 months after DD2 - long may it continue

mine didnt come back until i stopped bf, and then i got pregnant again! lol, my dc3 is 7mnths and i had 1 period at around 3mnths and i am on depo

No period after ds1 until stopped bf. After dd2, stopped bf about 9m, but took another ?6m to have a period. Seems normal to me. But please remember to use contraception! No periods doesn't mean can't conceive!

Mine came back at 9 months & then was regular even though I was still breastfeeding until 2.5 yrs.

I only got them back when I finished bf at 8.5 months
