I have been feeling tired, run down and dizzy for a couple of months. People keep asking if I have lost weight which I havent noticed. I went to the gp today as had gestational diabetes when i was pregnant (dd is now 14 month) so though better get checked out.

Blood sugar was fine today but gp weighed me and I have lost 9 kg in 10 month. He has ordered blood tests. I am now worried sick I have cancer or something, would that show up in a blood test? Also is that a lot of weight to lose without trying?

I think it also depends on whether you had any post pg weight left?

I gained over 50 pounds with DS and lost it all and more within a year.

Also you're under a lot of stress (I've been lurking on the thread about your DD) so that could be it as well.

I didnt have post pregnancy weight as had gestational diabetes so completly changed my diet and I actually weighed less when she was born than I did before pregnant :)

I dont feel particularly stressed but I suppose I probably am. I think I am just worrying more than ususal about health issues because of dd

Could be thyroid issues which is easily sorted. Try not to worry.

Oh - I have your 9kg if you want them back? Smile

thyroid, major contender.

Hyperthyroidism also causes weight loss. I knew someone who lost loads of weight, thougth that it might be cancer and it turned out to be her thyroid. This would show up in blook tests. My DH once had blood tests, went back for the results and was told "it's ok, you don't have cancer" so presumably there are blood tests for it.

Ah, also "I completely changed my diet and I actually weighed less when she was born than I did before pg"

Have you stuck to the new regime? That could account for steady weight loss if you were overweight to start with. The blood tests still seem like a good idea, just in case - I agree about thyroid.

Ah, yes, I was borderline on GTT test in 6 or 7th month of pg and so was put on the strict diet (no sweets, even portions of protein and carbs in the meal etc) for few weeks and while I was gaining weight before at an alarming speed, I didn't gain an ounce while on it- so yes, if you sort of stuck with the diet, this could be your reason.

Are you breast feeding? Are you feeling generally run down? I lost a huge amount of weight in the year after giving birth. Was about 1stone lighter than pre-pregnancy. I had thyroid tests and wondered if there was something seriously wrong with me too.
There was no underlying cause for me. It was just a combination of BFing, PND, not looking after myself, loss of appetite, and generally feeling miserable. Oh, and marching around pushing a buggy every day (as opposed to sitting at a desk all day).

The weight's gradually crept back on though. I'm prob about the same as pre-pregnancy.

See what GP says though. It's definitely worth looking into.
