Anti-depressants, how do you get through the first few weeks?

I've been depressed for a while, and have tried to take different anti-depressants on various occasions, but just can't make it past a few days.
Started a new course yesterday, but spent all evening zonked out feeling sick, then all night having cold sweats, head racing etc.
I need to drive, and am on my own with the two Ds's (6 and 10) and I just can't imagine 4-6 weeks feeling this terrible.

Hi, I'm on fluoxetine at the moment but was on sertraline previously. Going onto Sertraline was difficult, nausea, swollen/dry tongue, that "gas and air" feeling. I had my sister to stay for the first week which really helped, she did all the driving and helped with the children. When I switched to fluoxetine I had a washout and then started taking them, but although I felt the change it wasn't so bad.

What advice has your GP given you? Can you save starting them till you can get some extra help? I think you need to try them for at least a fortnight to see if they're going to settle in. Good luck!

Have you tried posting in the mental health topic? You might get more response there.

Please go on youtube and type, the truth about anti-depressants. Or even cchrint.org is a brilliant site and could be helpful. Where do you sepnd most of your time? I ask this as there is a link between depression and indoor air pollution.

If it goes on for more than a few days - go back to your GP, not all Anti D's suit everyone. You need to give it at least 4 - 6 weeks but you shouldn't feel like you are for the full time. Hope you feel better soon :)
